COVID-19 Pandemic Update: As part of our response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Queensway Health Centre out-patient cancer care has been temporarily moved to the Credit Valley Hospital site.
This move will help improve our patients’ care experience and create additional capacity during this time. Patients will continue to receive safe, compassionate, high quality care as we remain fully committed to protecting patients, our people and the community we serve.


IMPORTANT UPDATE
On August 17, the Ontario Government announced that the province will begin offering third doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to select vulnerable populations, including:

  • Transplant recipients (including solid organ transplant and hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients);
  • Patients with hematological cancers (examples include lymphoma, myeloma, leukemia) receiving chemotherapy, targeted therapy, or immunotherapy for malignant hematologic disorders;
  • Recipients of an anti-CD20 agent (e.g. rituximab, ocrelizumab, ofatumumab);
  • Residents of high-risk congregate settings including long-term care homes, higher-risk licensed retirement homes and First Nations elder care lodges.

We will update you shortly on our plan to identify eligible THP patients, who will then be contacted directly by their health care provider to determine eligibility, timing and the location of their third dose. At this time, Mississauga Hospital’s vaccination clinic will not be administering third doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. This implementation will take some time and we appreciate your patience.

How can I contact my healthcare team?

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Credit Valley Oncology team and the Queensway Oncology team are both working out of Credit Valley Hospital. Even though we are working in the same place, the phone numbers for each team are different. If you are not sure which numbers to use, please ask your nurse or cancer doctor which team they belong to.

What is REACT?

REACT stands for Rapid Evaluation & Assessment of Cancer Treatment. 
If you are getting systemic therapy (medications to treat your cancer), and you have symptoms because of your treatment, this service can help you manage your symptoms.
When you call REACT, a nurse from our cancer centre will call you back to help you with your symptoms.  The nurse may ask you to come to the cancer centre to be seen by a nurse or doctor.

REACT is not a walk-in clinic. Always call REACT so that a nurse can find the best and safest way to help you.

What is CAREchart@home?

CAREchart@home is a telephone service to help you manage your cancer related treatment symptoms. The goal of this after-hours telephone line is to help you manage your symptoms at home, so that you don’t need to visit the emergency room.

Only use CAREchart@home after clinic hours. Please don’t use this telephone line during regular clinic hours.

Where can I park, and how can I pay for parking?

There are two main parking areas at Credit Valley Hospital.

The P2 parking garage and parking lot are closest to the Cancer Centre entrance.

You can buy daily or multi-use parking passes at a pay station inside the hospital, or by going to the Parking Office. The Parking Office is in the P1 surface lot.

I am a new patient. What should I have with me during my first appointment?

Your first appointment with the Cancer Centre may be in-person or over the phone. This appointment is typically longer than other appointments.
During this appointment, our healthcare team will go over your medical history with you, and provide information to help you understand your treatment plan.
Please have the following with you for your first appointment:

  • Ontario Health Card (OHIP).
    • If you have a red and white OHIP card, you will also need either a photo ID, passport, permanent resident card or citizenship card.
  • Current medication in original containers (include prescription, over the counter and vitamin, mineral or herbal supplements).
  • Name, address and phone number of family doctor.
  • If you have a drug benefit plan, have your card with you.
  • Name, address and phone number of your pharmacy.
  • A list of questions you want to ask your doctor or nurse.
  • If your first appointment is in-person:
    • Bring some money or credit card to pay for parking, purchase food or pay for prescriptions.
    • Something to help pass the time while you wait.
    • Cell phone to call a support person (family, friends). A support person can help you keep track of the information you get and give you support.
    • A snack from home. Please stay 2 meters (6 feet) away from others while eating. Put your mask back on as soon as you have finished eating.

Tax Deductible Expenses
Some expenses incurred during your treatment may be tax deductible. We encourage you to maintain a record of your expenses and save all relevant receipts for income tax purposes. On line information about refundable medical expenses can be found at the Revenue Canada website at www.cra-arc.gc.ca or call toll-free 1-800-267-6999.
